Both “Boston Blue” and “Sheriff Country” have been renewed for Season 2 at CBS, Variety has learned.
Both shows are spinoffs of other CBS series — “Blue Bloods” and “Fire Country” respectively. Both also air on Friday nights on the broadcaster, having premiered as part of the CBS fall lineup on Oct. 17 and having aired six episodes each to date. CBS Studios produces both series.
“Two new shows on Friday night have become instant hits with audiences quickly embracing ‘Boston Blue’ and ‘Sheriff Country’ across broadcast and streaming,” said Amy Reisenbach, president of CBS Entertainment. “These early renewals reflect the power of character-driven storytelling, compelling narratives and the exceptional talent on both sides of the camera that make these series truly stand out.”
Per Nielsen Live+7 multiplatform data, “Sheriff Country” is averaging 7.6 million viewers per episode to date, while “Boston Blue” is averaging 8 million. Both shows have also helped CBS win every Friday night in total viewers since their debut.
“Sheriff Country” stars Morena Baccarin, Matt Lauria, W. Earl Brown, Christopher Gorham, and Michele Weaver. The logline for the series states, “Set in small-town Edgewater, California, Sheriff Country follows Sheriff Mickey Fox (Baccarin) as she investigates criminal activity while navigating complex family dynamics.”
The series was created by Max Thierot, Tony Phelan, and Joan Rater, who also created “Fire Country.” all serve as executive producers along with Matt Lopez as well as Jerry Bruckheimer and KristieAnne Reed for Jerry Bruckheimer Television.
Donnie Wahlberg reprises his “Blue Bloods” role as former NYPD Detective Danny Reagan as he joins the Boston Police Department. Sonequa Martin-Green plays his partner, Detective Lena Silver. The cast also includes Gloria Reuben, Maggie Lawson, Marcus Scribner, Mika Amonsen, and Ernie Hudson. Amonsen plays Sean Reagan, Danny’s son, who was originally played by Andrew Terraciano on “Blue Bloods.”
Brandon Sonnier and Brandon Margolis developed “Boston Blue” and executive produce along with Wahlberg, Bruckheimer, and Reed.
