BBC Studios Kids & Family Productions have unveiled “Vanishing Point,” a new comedy-action animation series created by Tom Gran and Martin Woolley, the BAFTA-winning writing and directing duo.
The series, announced at the Annecy Animation Festival, was commissioned by BBC Children’s & Education and French broadcaster France Télévisions. In addition to representing global rights, BBC Studios Kids & Family is producing, alongside France-based Watch Next Media and Irish animation co-producer Kavaleer Productions, with support from the Fís Éireann/Screen Ireland and France’s National Film Board (CNC).
Set in the shabby seaside town, “Vanishing Point” follows a group of four teens, Ivy, Cole, Zefi, and Splash, whose world is turned upside-down when their town is overrun by ordinary-looking objects which are thought to have extra-dimensional power trapped inside. They become unlikely heroes as they unravel the mystery of these supernatural objects, secretly protecting the town from the dangers and mayhem.
“‘Vanishing Point’ offers a fresh perspective on action-driven storytelling that we can’t wait to share with audiences around the world,” said Cecilia Persson, managing director of BBC Studios Kids & Family. “We are passionate about creating shows that resonate with children worldwide and it has been invaluable having CBBC and France Télévisions as solid supporters of Vanishing Point from the very early stages.”
Persson said Watch Next Media and Kavaleer Productions will blend “creative ingenuity with commercial expertise to produce a show that perfectly balances quirky humour, action and mystery.”
Pierre Siracusa, France Televisions’ director of Animation, young Audiences and education, said “’Vanishing Point’ is a funny comedy adventure that will resonate with anyone over the age of 8.”
He said the show also marks a “fruitful collaboration between talented artists from both sides of the Channel, a true partnership that started at the very beginning of development and has resulted in a delightful series.”
