One of my favorite over-the-air updates to my 2019 Tesla Model 3 came right after I bought it. Tesla added the capability to watch YouTube, Netflix, Disney+, and other things on the vehicle touchscreen. Actually, I forget now if all of those were added at once or some were added later, but either way, they were the best additions to the car I’ve gotten since buying it. With two young kids, I’ve used Netflix and Disney+ countless times since then.
I have long wondered, how long until other automakers add these things? In China, it didn’t take long at all for smart EV startups to include these options. But what about legacy automakers from Europe and the US? Well, now, Audi has joined the party!
“Audi and Disney have joined forces to create entertainment experiences both in the car and in the cinema. Audi customers can now experience Disney+ programming directly in compatible vehicles through onboard streaming technology,” Audi writes. “Additionally, two Audi models play a role in Disney’s new movie ‘TRON: Ares,’ now playing only in cinemas. From the big screen to in-car displays, the collaboration underscores the commitment of Audi to blending cutting-edge technology and emotional, immersive global experiences to create unforgettable journeys.”
You simply get the app from the Audi Application Store. The new option is available in 43 markets: the USA, numerous European countries, Australia, New Zealand, and parts of Asia.
Electric models the Disney+ is available in include Audi A6 e-tron and Audi Q6 e-tron model lines. Note that Volkswagen Group division CARIAD helped to develop the Audi Application Store.
Circling back to the movie, “The film features two Audi models that bridge the gap between classic automotive culture and a digital, electrified future,” Audi writes. It’s not a movie I intended to watch, but maybe I have to now.
