Apple’s AirPods are getting a couple of new features and gestures, the Cupertino-based tech company announced at its Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) on Monday.
While leaks suggested more gestures and other additions, Apple announced that the AirPods lineup would be getting two key features: studio-quality audio recording and camera remote.
With the audio recording improvements, you’ll be able to record content with better sound quality, even when on the go or in a noisy spot. With a combination of an H2 chip, beamforming microphones, and computational audio, you’ll also get better, more natural audio when on iPhone or FaceTime calls, or other voice apps.
The features are coming to AirPods 4, AirPods 4 with Active Noise Cancellation (ANC), and AirPods Pro 2 devices.
AirPods users will also be able to activate the camera by pressing and holding on the AirPods stem. (Perhaps this gesture is designed to train us how to use future AR glasses?) This gesture can trigger the camera or a third-party camera app, depending on settings. You can also choose to start either a photo or video — the latter a great improvement for TikTokers, of course.
