Anubhav Mohanty, one of Odia-language cinema’s most prominent stars, has come on board as presenter for the musical romance drama “Bindusagar,” which opens across Indian theaters on April 17.
The film, produced by Platoon One Films in association with Blackbuck Films, received its world premiere at the 56th International Film Festival of India, Goa, and will be distributed nationwide by Prakash Films, a leading East India distribution house. The production marks the first Odia feature from Platoon One Films, the banner founded by Shiladitya Bora that also produced the Indian National Film Award-winning “Picasso” and Toronto Film Festival selection “Bayaan.”
Mohanty has won several Odisha State Film Awards across his career, which spans hits including “Karma,” “I Love You,” “Balunga Toka,” “Arjuna,” and “Something Something.” “Supporting this film, and presenting it to a wider audience, is not an act of generosity – it is, in fact, the least I can do as someone who believes in the potential of our industry,” he said.
“The title ‘Bindusagar’ is symbolic. It is not just a place – it is an emotion, a spiritual center, a silent witness to centuries of history, devotion, and cultural continuity,” Mohanty said, adding that he has spent more than two decades hoping “to see Odia cinema not just survive, but rise, shine, and command respect on the world stage.”
“‘Bindusagar’ marks our first Odia production, and having an iconic star like Anubhav Mohanty champion the film is both encouraging and deeply validating,” said Bora. “We’re incredibly grateful for his support in giving the film a powerful springboard and helping position Odia cinema on the global stage.”
The ensemble cast is led by Prakruti Mishra, with Dipanwit Dashmohapatra, Sukanth Rath, Satya Ranjan, Sonali Sharmistha, and Robin Das in supporting roles.
