Adam Redfern Joins ‘Peppa Pig’ as New Showrunner

Peppa Pig” fans are set to squeal with delight as the long-running porcine franchise welcomes a new showrunner.

“The Adventures of Paddington” scribe Adam Redfern has inked (or perhaps that should read “oinked”) a deal with Hasbro to oversee creative direction across the animated series, now into its third-decade, including content, storytelling, character development and the overall vision.

Redfern has more than 20 years of experience in children’s television, having worked on the aforementioned “Paddington” series as well as the BBC’s “GoJetters” and Moonbug’s “Oddbods,” among other fare.

“‘Peppa Pig’ is one of the rare preschool properties that has become a genuine fixture of modern family culture – something I’ve seen first-hand at home – so stepping into this role is both professionally exciting and personally meaningful,” Redfern tells Variety.

“The opportunity ahead is to continue to thoughtfully evolve the programme while protecting the simple, character-led storytelling that has powered its global success. Together with our writers, directors and partners, we’re focused on delivering stories that reflect the everyday experiences of today’s preschoolers, while keeping the humour and emotional authenticity that fans expect. I’m delighted to be joining the team and like Peppa, I’m ready to jump straight into the muddy puddles!”

Preschool series “Peppa Pig” first launched in 2004 and has since gone global, with films, merchandise and even theme park experiences. Last year the Peppa family welcomed a new baby sister, Evie, and recently dealt with little brother George’s hearing diagnosis.

“‘Peppa Pig’ has a strong and clearly defined identity that has guided the series for more than 20 years,” said Tamara Grindrod, Hasbro’s SVP for action, preschool and fashion. “Adam joins at a moment of strong creative momentum for the brand. His experience and leadership will help guide the franchise forward with care and intention as we continue shaping stories for a new generation of preschoolers and parents.”
