Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series Commentary (Updated June 12, 2025): The lead drama actor is tighter than ever this year. Only 77 actors submitted — down slightly from 2024, which had 81. As a result, each category will have only five nominees unless ties boost the field to six.
The drama actor race includes a trio of Latino contenders making waves: Diego Luna for “Andor,” Pedro Pascal for “The Last of Us,” and Ramón Rodríguez for “Will Trent.” They’ll face off against a rising generation, and established career performers such as Matthew Goode (“Dept. Q”), Jon Hamm (“Your Friends and Neighbors”) and Jack Quaid (“The Boys”).
The Emmys eligibility period ends on May 31. Nomination voting runs from June 12 to June 23, with official nominations set to be announced July 15.
