Royal Enfield has officially moved past its century-long reliance on internal combustion with the commercial debut of the Flying Flea C6. This inaugural electric model from the world’s oldest motorcycle manufacturer in continuous production represents a strategic pivot toward sustainable urban mobility. The launch, which took place in Bengaluru this April, introduces a dedicated electric sub-brand that draws heavily on the company’s heritage while integrating modern lightweight engineering and connectivity.
The Flying Flea C6 is built on a proprietary L-platform that emphasizes weight reduction and thermal management. The motorcycle features a forged aluminum frame that creates a continuous structural line from the headstock to the swingarm, contributing to a total kerb weight of just 124 kg. This makes it the lightest vehicle in the current Royal Enfield portfolio. A standout aesthetic and functional choice is the use of a forged aluminum girder fork at the front, a parallelogram-linkage system that pays homage to 1930s aviation-inspired design.
The powertrain consists of a 15.4 kW permanent magnet synchronous motor capable of delivering a 0–60 km/h sprint in 3.7 seconds and a top speed of 115 km/h. Energy is stored in a 3.91 kWh lithium-ion battery housed within a finned magnesium alloy casing. This choice of material acts as a structural heatsink, allowing the battery to remain air-cooled even during high-demand cycles. While the official Indian Driving Cycle range is stated at 154 km, real-world urban performance is projected to be closer to 100 km per charge.
During the launch event, Siddhartha Lal, Executive Chairman of Eicher Motors Ltd., emphasized that this transition is about more than just a change in fuel source. He noted that for 125 years, the brand has focused on authenticity and craftsmanship, and this milestone signifies a pivotal new chapter. He described the move as looking ahead with clarity and conviction to redefine what is possible in motorcycling.
B. Govindarajan, CEO of Royal Enfield, highlighted the in-house development of the project. He stated that the Flying Flea C6 was built by a dedicated team with deep expertise in both hardware and software. According to Govindarajan, the goal was to create a design-led motorcycle that feels intuitive and alive to the rider. He also confirmed that the company has a strong pipeline of electric two-wheelers, including the scrambler-styled S6, which will follow the C6 to build on this new vision.
Royal Enfield is utilizing a phased, city-by-city rollout strategy, starting with a dedicated flagship store in Bengaluru. To lower the barrier to entry for electric adoption, the company has introduced a Battery-as-a-Service model. This allows customers to purchase the motorcycle at a reduced upfront cost of 1.99 lakh rupees (approximately $2,149 based on April 2026 exchange rates), with the battery provided through a subscription or lease arrangement. For those preferring full ownership, the traditional ex-showroom price is set at 2.79 lakh rupees (approximately $3,012).
The motorcycle is equipped with a sophisticated electronics suite dubbed Fleaware.OS. This system supports over-the-air updates and manages features such as lean-angle sensing traction control, cornering ABS, and five distinct ride modes. The integration of a 3.5-inch circular TFT touchscreen and wireless phone charging within the “tank” compartment reflects a focus on the tech-forward urban commuter. As the company expands this electric ecosystem, the C6 serves as a high-technology demonstrator of Royal Enfield’s intent to lead the premium electric two-wheeler segment in India and eventually global markets.
