Rick Moranis Rare Red Carpet Outing at CinemaCon, Spaceballs Sequel

Dark Helmet has returned—earlier than expected.

Though Rick Moranis has long stayed out of the public eye over the last few decades, he made a surprise return to the red carpet at CinemaCon on April 15 to tease the upcoming sequel to the 1987 cult hit Spaceballs.

For the outing in support of the Mel Brooks film, Rick posed alongside OG costars like Daphne Zuniga and Bill Pullman, as well as franchise newcomers Lewis Pullman and Josh Gad. 

Although he didn’t join them at the event, in a pre-taped video during Amazon MGM’s CinemaCon presentation, Mel—who wrote, produced and starred in the Star Wars spoof—revealed the sequel will, in fact, not be called the previously teased title Spaceballs 2: The Search for More Money, but Spaceballs: The New One.

“I’ll see you at the movies,” Mel said at the end of the message, “and may the Schwartz be with you.”
