If you’ve been intrigued by those color analysis videos on TikTok, you’re not the only one.
We’re so fascinated by color analysis, that we spoke with Sarah Shim, Personal Color Consultant at Yoni Color Studio, to find out how you can determine your color season at home, plus what you should wear based on your palette.
What is color season analysis?
“Color analysis is the process of finding the colors that naturally enhance your features,” explains Sarah. It takes into consideration how your hair color, eye color, undertone, and contrast interact with each other.
“We use the combination of those four factors to find the best color season and palette for you.”
How can I find my color season at home?
Rather than adhere to the myth that your vein color determines your undertone (Sarah says that isn’t a reliable method), the best expert hack is to play with some neutral colors at home, specifically analyzing how you look in white versus cream.
“If you feel like your features look sharper and you look more crisp and clean in a bright white, you’re more likely to have cool undertones,” Sarah explains. “And if you feel like those cool bright whites wash you out a little bit and look softer and more lively in cream or ivory, you’re more likely to have a warm undertone.”
While it’s not the only factor that determines your color season, undertone can be the first step in determining whether you’re a summer or winter (cool undertones) or a spring or autumn (warm undertones).
