Terry Crews, Jermaine Harris to Star in ‘Inauguration Day’

Terry Crews and Jermaine Harris are set to star in “Inauguration Day,” a coming-of-age film set in a high school on Jan. 20, 2009, the day of President Barack Obama’s inauguration.

Described as a “socially resonant dramedy,” the movie is executive produced by Grammy-winning artist and entrepreneur will.i.am and serves as Sundance alum Sterling Hampton IV’s (“Kylie”) feature directorial debut.

“Inauguration Day” draws from Hampton’s experience attending a predominantly white school during Obama’s 2009 inauguration and follows as “a well-meaning celebration spirals into chaos as students clash and alliances shift.” Harris, who recently starred in Tyler Perry’s “Joe’s College Road Trip” for Netflix, plays Frederick, “an outsider navigating crushes, identity and the need to belong,” who is at the center of the fracas. Crews (“Brooklyn Nine-Nine,” “White Chicks”) plays Frederick’s larger-than-life dad, Anthony, who “turns up the heat” on the situation.

Hampton directs from a script by Sabrina Lassegue (“Tall Tales & Murder”), who also stars in the movie. Rounding out the ensemble cast are Bart Johnson (“High School Musical”), Lexi Underwood (“Cruel Summer”), Tim Johnson Jr. (“Saturdays”), Israel Johnson (“Bunk’d”) and Victoria Ogbonna (“Mean Boys”), with Sean Lew (“The Cleaning Lady”), Karly Rothenberg (“The Office”), Grace Wethor (“Saving Buddy Charles”) and Tevin Johnson (“Cross”) in supporting roles.

Bart Johnson, Tim Johnson Jr., Israel Johnson; and director Sterling Hampton IV (first row, left to right); Jermaine Harris, Terry Crews and Lexi Underwood (second row); and Victoria Ogbonna, Grace Wethor, Sabrina Lassegue and Sean Lew (third row).

Hampton will produce the film under his banner, Clash of the Artistic Minds, alongside Lassegue’s production company, Extinguished Youth. Producers also include Nina Childs (“A Holiday Change”) and Daniel Sollinger (“Clean”). Tim Johnson Jr., Bart Johnson and Harris are billed as associate producers.

Crews is represented by CAA and David Krintzman, and Harris is repped by CESD. Hampton is represented by Navigation Media Group, and Lassegue is repped by The Wayne Agency. Bart Johnson is repped by INSURGE-Ent; Underwood is repped by Gersh, Untitled Entertainment and JTWAMM; Tim and Israel Johnson are repped by MMV and Foundation Partners; and Obonna is repped by Johnson Talent Agency.
