Michaela McManus is reuniting with David Boreanaz in NBC‘s attempt to reboot “The Rockford Files.”
Variety has learned that McManus has joined the drama pilot alongside previously announced lead Boreanaz, who will take on the iconic role of Jim Rockford. In addition, Greg Mottola (“Confess, Fletch,” “Peacemaker”) is set to direct the pilot.
The official logline for the show states, “Newly paroled after doing time for a crime he didn’t commit, James Rockford returns to his life as a private investigator using his charm and wit to solve cases around Los Angeles. It doesn’t take long for his quest for legitimacy to land him squarely in the crosshairs of both local police and organized crime.”
McManus will star as Kate, described as “An East Hollywood detective whose romantic relationship to Rockford got complicated after he publicly accused fellow officers of framing him.”
This is not the first time McManus and Boreanaz have played romantic partners. She previously played his wife in the popular CBS/Paramount+ military drama “SEAL Team.” The pilot also marks a return to NBC for McManus, as she previously played ADA Kim Greylek across multiple seasons of “Law & Order: SVU.” McManus’ other TV credits include “One Tree Hill,” “The Orville,” and “You.” She currently appears in the Fox drama “Memory of a Killer” opposite Patrick Dempsey.
She is repped by CESD and Strand Entertainment.
The “Rockford Files” pilot hails from writer and executive producer Mike Daniels. Carl Beverly and Sarah Timberman will executive produce, with Chris Leanza co-executive producing. Boreanaz will serve as producer in addition to starring. Mottola will executive produce the pilot in addition to directing. Universal Television is the studio.
