Some basic BEV purchase incentives have begun again in 2026, and may help get BEV sales back to a decent growth trajectory, let’s keep an eye on that.
Best-Selling BEVs
The Volvo EX40 was the best-selling BEV in December, with 1,223 units, its highest volume of the year. The runners up were the Polestar 4 and the Volkswagen ID.7.
There were no significant new model debuts in December.
The final quarter of 2025 saw the Volvo EX40 in a solid lead, ahead of the Volkswagen ID.7 and the Kia EV3.
In the full year rankings, the Volvo EX40 was again the leader, with the Volkswagen ID.7 in a safe second place. The Tesla Model Y came third.
The Tesla Model Y fell from 17,676 units in 2024, to 5,859 units in 2025, a fall in volume of some two-thirds, toppling from top spot down to third place.
Outlook
With a limited incentive scheme now back on the table for BEVs, their market share may finally get a decent lift in 2026, but we will have to see how it plays out.
