Anthony Joshua Defeats Jake Paul in ‘Judgment Day’ Fight

After about a month of anticipation, “Judgment Day” has finally arrived, and Anthony Joshua claimed victory against Jake Paul on Friday night’s fight. Joshua knocked down Paul in the sixth round of their heavyweight fight in Miami, Florida.

The match, officially billed as Jake Vs. Joshua: Judgment Day, took place at Miami’s Kaseya Center; Netflix livestreamed the showdown.

The event paired cruiserweight Paul with heavyweight Joshua for what Netflix said would be a “sanctioned, professional heavyweight bout” that would take place over eight three-minute rounds. The boxers wore 10-ounce gloves.

The 6’6″ Joshua, who has a record of 28-4 and 25 knockouts, weighed in at 243.4 pounds before the fight. Paul, 6’1″, checked in at 216.6 pounds; his record is 12-1 with seven knockouts. ESPN reported that Paul attracted the majority of support from gamblers prior to the event and that if he were to lose, it would cost DraftKings nearly $100 million.

Judgment Day marked Paul’s second Netflix livestream on the heels of last year’s match with Mike Tyson. Paul, age 27 at the time, easily defeated Tyson, then 58, for what Rolling Stone called “a ridiculous stunt.”

In a hype statement to announce the Joshua bout, Paul, now 28, promised reality this time. “This isn’t an AI simulation,” he said. “This is Judgment Day.”

Joshua, a 36-year-old who won the U.K. a gold medal at the 2012 Olympics, offered up equally comical flimflam in response. “I’m about to break the internet over Jake Paul’s face,” he said.

At a press conference on Wednesday, Paul said he believed Joshua was taking all of his hype seriously. “I believe he’s locked in and knows that this could potentially be the biggest loss and will be the biggest loss of his career,” he said. “He has so much to lose in this fight.”

Joshua, who lost a match to Daniel Dubois in September 2024, in turn commented on how he sees Paul’s fearlessness. “Jake Paul creates a great challenge for me, and he’s got a great mindset for sure,” the boxer said. “But as I said earlier, competition is really good.”
