BBC correspondent Will Vernon has been wading through the flood water that has caused widespread damage in Monmouth town centre, Wales.
Family have told BBC Wales how they were rescued from their homes in the darkness by boat, while business owners say they’ve lost stock worth “thousands” in the flood waters.
A major incident has been declared in Monmouth by South Wales Fire and Rescue Service with crews called to 82 flood-related incidents in the wider area.
Council bosses say they were “ready and prepared but not to this level” due to rivers reaching “unprecedented” levels.
