GALECA, The Society of LGBTQ Entertainment Critics, has announced that Diane Anderson-Minshall, former CEO of Pride Media has been named executive director, alongside a new board of directors.
Anderson-Minshall is set to be the first woman to lead the LGBTQ+ journalism organization. As a journalist, editor, and author, Anderson-Minshall has previously served as editorial director of Out, The Advocate, Out Traveler, and Pride.com, as well as editor-in-chief or editor of GO, Curve, Girlfriends, Alice, Plus, QSF, Passport, and On Our Backs. She has received numerous accolades, such as multiple GLAAD awards, NLGJA awards, and the 2016 Golden Crown Award for a memoir.
“I’m thrilled to step into this role and work with our incredible board members, and the broader creative community to continue amplifying LGBTQ+ stories,” Anderson-Minshall said in a GALECA press release. “We have exciting plans to elevate the work of our critics, celebrate representation, and connect with audiences in new ways.”
Alongside Anderson-Minshall’s new role, founder John Griffiths will step back from day-to-day operations. Griffiths launched GALECA in 2009 to create a community for critics covering LGBTQ+ stories and entertainment.
“John’s imprint on GALECA and LGBTQ+ media at large is indelible,” said Anderson-Minshall. “I’m honored to continue his legacy while ushering in a new chapter focused on growth, innovation, and even deeper engagement with both audiences and creators.”
The 2025-2027 Board of Directors will include Pulitzer Prize winning Walter Hickey returning for his last term as president, author and journalist Gerrick Kennedy joining as vice president; “Looper” writer and actor Reuben Baron as treasurer, Asian Movie Pulse’s Grace Han returning for last term as secretary, international journalist Triston Brewer returning as diversity director, POC Culture’s Jorgie Rodriguez joining as membership director, and culture writer Shelli Nicole serving as outreach and social media director.
