UPDATE: Fire crews have halted the forward progress of the Barron Fire in Reno, Nevada, and all evacuation orders have been lifted. The wildfire, which scorched approximately 75 acres, prompted a coordinated response from multiple agencies.

On Tuesday evening, the Reno Fire Department reported that heavy rainfall had significantly reduced fire activity. No injuries or structural damage have been reported.

In an update posted to X (formerly Twitter), the department stated: “RFD has 14 suppression units on the scene along with overhead support from battalion Chiefs and logistical support. We are in unified command with TM. There are resources almost around the complete perimeter of the fire. Heavy rain is falling on the fire, reducing fire activity substantially. Air support also continues to work the fire.”

A subsequent post added: “Heavy precipitation and aggressive fire attack from all agencies has stopped forward progress on the Baron Fire. No structure loss, no known injuries currently. Critical infrastructure protected including South Meadows Water Treatment Plant, water tanks, and cellphone towers.”

ORIGINAL STORY: A fire broke out on Rattlesnake Mountain near Barron Way in Reno, Nevada, on Tuesday afternoon, sparking evacuation orders. The blaze ignited around 2 p.m., sending thick black smoke drifting across parts of the valley. Fire crews are actively working to contain the flames. The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.

The Reno Fire Department wrote on X: “We have crews responding to a brush fire just off Barron Way in South Reno. This is the area to the south of McCarran and east of Longley Lane. Multiple apparatus are on scene with one fire aircraft fighting from the sky. Additional updates will be provided as more information becomes available. There is an evacuation order in place.”
