Over the last two months or so in the US there have been many EV charger installations completed or announced for installation. Of particular note, the ones within the scope of mainstream America appear to stand out because electric vehicles are no longer only for people who live in the coastal urban areas such as the Bay Area, LA, New York City, DC, and Miami, etc.
Here at CleanTechnica, we have reported about hundreds of new fast chargers announced for Walmarts in 19 states and thousands more planned at mainstream retail outlets such as Kroger and Kroger-affiliated stores. Red states often appear EV resistant or hesitant, and yet even within some of them, EV charging has been expanding.
Why this matters is pretty simple: more public EV charging supports greater EV adoption because EV drivers need to charge regularly on long-distance trips. When there are charging deserts or gaps in charging coverage, EV drivers are not well supported.
Dollywood is located in a rural area of Tennessee near the Great Smoky National Park. While many people might expect Yellowstone or Yosemite national parks to be the most visited in the US, it is actually Great Smoky National Park with over 12 million visitors per year.
The Dollywood amusement park is only about 11 miles from the highly popular national park. Fourteen new EV charging ports may not sound like much. It isn’t the number that matters so much, it is their presence and availability, because even a small new EV charging hub installation makes it easier for EV drivers to travel to and from an area they could not reach as easily before. It isn’t only about EV chargers at Dollywood, because 10 solar-powered umbrella charging units were installed too. The amusement park has several million visitors per year so many people will see and use the EV chargers and the solar umbrellas.
“Dollywood is a treasured landmark for families and visitors from across the country. We are honored to partner with SCES and Dollywood to deliver technology that adds convenience for guests while enhancing innovation in the region,” said Betsey Kirk McCall, President and CEO of Seven States.
Every EV and charging success story matters right now with a White House administration that is trying to stop sustainable transportation and clean, renewable electricity generation. There are many of these stories and they often are overlooked because the mainstream media usually doesn’t cover them.
